Deadly Shooting Suspect Near Gallaudet Arrested

Are you saying that only criminals will have guns in a gun free zone?

How is that possible? :dunno: Don't they know the law? It is supposed to be "safe" in a gun free zone!!

Yes, I think you supposed to know.

Criminals don't care about law and they just broke the law.

There are no gun violence in Gally campus but it does happen from out of campus.

Ok, ok ... I even have PROOF that gun free zones are supposed to be safe - and lots and lots of sources to PROVE to any doubters out there that aren't too awful sure what the point is of having gun free zones so here you go:

Strategy: Gun-Free School Zones — National Crime Prevention Council

See?!! right there! BAM! It is a magical invisible barrier designed to keep guns out!!

(so how the heck did the criminal get inside this barrier?)

Whew! I am so relieved that this strategy recognizes the danger of concealed carry in the possession of gang members, drug traffickers, and ...... fearful students. That is obviously why they do not want law abiding citizens to conceal carry. Wow ... they are so smart.

Ok, so how the heck do these offenders keep getting inside this invisible barrier? Even though it is marked by signs? How come they don't turn around and just walk away?

The federal gun free zone don't apply to universities, so it is limited to K-12 education.

No no -- see here (DC Code) :

http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/dc.pdf

22-4502.01. Gun Free Zones; Enhanced Penalty [Formerly 22-3202.1]
(a) All areas within 1000 feet of a public or private day care center, elementary school, vocational school, secondary school, college, junior college, or university, or any public swimming pool, playground, video arcade, or youth center, or an event sponsored by any of the above entities shall be declared a gun free zone.
(b) Any person illegally carrying a gun within a gun free zone shall be punished by a fine up to twice that otherwise authorized to be imposed, by a term of imprisonment up to twice that otherwise authorized to be imposed, or both.

A fine twice imposed. So if a criminal is in a shootout and shoots innocent people and ends up getting killed, they will get killed twice.

so it is DC law and the shooting just happened outside of Gally campus.

I thought you talked about federal gun free zone, also our university don't allow students to CCW or open carry in university buildings and facilitates, so it is university policy, despite about legal under state law.

DC code prohibits University carry as well as the area surrounding the University (within 1000 feet)

Remember, it is designed to keep guns out. But those criminals keep slipping past that invisible barrier - they need to patch that hole.

What do you think should happen?

DC has find way to deal with crime, without pass any pro-gun laws.

I don't like to live in DC, so I prefer to live in ski resort with very, very tiny crime.

But, DC has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Why isn't that working?

Putting harsh restrictions on owning a firearm should be working right?

Now, I don't understand something ... why is it that the cities with the most restrictive gun ownership laws are also the hub of the most violent crimes?

can't criminals read?

that's why I guffawed at such flawed concept.

They have look to fight the criminals, also there are many cities have restrictive gun laws, especially Chicago is one of them.

Ask DC politicians.

The article I posted talks about how the gun ban in Chicago was ruled unconstitutional. Also, when law abiding citizens were allowed to purchase firearms, gun violence went down.

that is weird ...

Shall issue laws

Lott examines the effects of shall issue laws on violent crime across the United States.

His conclusion is that shall issue laws, which allow citizens to carry concealed weapons, steadily decrease violent crime. He explains that this result makes sense because criminals are deterred by the risk of attacking an armed victim. As more citizens arm themselves, the danger to criminals increases.

US Supreme Court ALREADY ruled DC gun ban as unconstitutional too.

The murder rate in Chicago has went up and down and up and down, so it has nothing with gun case, also they still have more restriction, addition to allow to have guns at home.

The ban on guns in Chicago was just recently lifted (July 2011) But the legislators in Chicago are still putting restrictions on gun ownership. A law abiding citizen still has to jump through very restrictive measures to have a firearm in Chicago.
