Dead Shark Left in Middle of the Street

No kidding. They are doing a great deal of damage to our environment by eliminating so many species of animals and plants.

Yea, I watched a document about this issue. If I recall correctly, it talked about selling shark meat in the black market and how it is endangering the species. Same with whales.

I just didnt know about the shark fin.

Went to a Shark Fishing Tournament years back, and had my first taste of shark meat off the grill. Old fishermen were there and cooking it. It was quite good! Also watched the anglers beaching sharks and shooting them into the head. Very big ones....I've heard that some restaurants do serve you shark meat instead of scallops when they are out of scallops. Sort of like a "switch and bait" scheme....
I'm not a fan of sharks....too many attacks here in Florida.

I imagine there are far more bites and fatalities caused by dogs in comparison to sharks in the state of Florida.

From 1882 to 2008, there has been only 13 fatalities caused by sharks in the state of Florida. Between 1882 and 2008, 610 attacks that did not result in a fatality.

Map of Florida's Confirmed Unprovoked Shark Attacks

That don't seems like a lot of attacks to me.

I do not like the taste of shark meat. We get them on the line and we release them. Depending on the size of the shark is where we take out the hook or leave it.

Wire leaders and hooks are designed to rust rapidly in salt water. So if the shark is larger. we cut the line as close as we can to the shark.

To sell sharks is illegal in Florida, with out the license to do so.

Also we have areas where you can not keep sharks. Depends on where you catch them. Off shore onshore etc. It is regulated.

I agree with you Banjo. I have swam with sharks many times. Out on the reefs. They do not usually bother you.

You are more likely to get bit by the neighborhood dog walking down the street.

Yeah, they think we aren't too tasty. We eat too much sort of crap for them to tolerate. Hee hee.

Oh I can imagine. The poor shark would have all kinds of intestinal pain, and issues. Since we do eat so much junk. :giggle:

Sharks left alone are usually regulated to the top of the ocean's food chain, along with the giant squids, octopi, manowars (these three and others not generally considered to be the top predators, but they're able to kill sharks so..)

Killing or attempting to rid the ocean of sharks will cause disruption and disaster to the ocean ecology, all the up to the tiniest little photosynthetic bacteria living on the top of the water.

These bacteria (believe it or not) are responsible for over half of the world's supply of oxygen. I believe the exact figures were around 2/3 of the world's air, but I'm not too sure. But it's over half for sure. Trees only do a quarter or so!

 Cut fins off and left to die? That's not good. :( They better not bother with them when they only need a small part of their bodies....*smh*
