Dad Says School Duct-Taped Son's Pants

DUNLAP, Ind. - An outraged father of a seventh-grader says an assistant principal duct-taped his son's pants to keep them from sagging then sent him back to class.

Scott Allison told the Concord School Board on Monday that his 12-year-old son, Spencer, said last week that a teacher asked him to lift his shirt after she noticed the boy's underwear was showing above his pants, a violation of Concord Junior High School's dress code.

She sent him to Assistant Principal Patricia Walters, who told Spencer to pull up his pants and tuck in his shirt, Allison said.

"She then proceeded to duct tape his waist, three times around the waist," said Allison. "Then she sent him back to class, in front of his peers."

He said he worried his son would be mocked by his classmates at the school in the town about 20 miles east of South Bend.

"This outrages me and shocks me," Allison said.

Allison also said that Spencer's underwear would not have been exposed if the shirt was left down.

"I don't understand what motivated her to ask him to lift up his shirt," he said.

Board President Randall Myers said the board would not discuss personnel issues in public. Junior high Principal Kevin Caird said student discipline is confidential.

Good grief, besides being mocked and ridiculed by his classmates, did it ever occured to the Assistant Principal that if the boy needed to use the restroom later and how hard it might be for him to be tearin' up the tape which may cause an unwanted scene? But using duct tape??? C'mon...this is sooo unreal and definitely an act of unprofessionalism on their part! Even the teacher to the point of having a teacher ordering the boy to lift up his shirt just to see if his underwear was visible or not...I do understand nowadays, there is such an fad whereas kids wear those baggy pants which tends to show off the underwear or boxers beneath...yet, if a shirt was fully covering the top of the pants...what 'right' would that allow teachers or school staff to order students to lift up their shirts whether they have such a rule in place?! huh?

How would any of you think this should have been handled?

hmm, how this should be handled ?

I would suggest that
every students must go nude
so there will be no more silly rules and
no more hassles going on ! and also
save lots of $$$ Walmart will go OUT of
Business if all of us go nude. Tee hee :)

p.s. i have the fear of going nude anyway haha

He should have just sent the boy home instead!

I concur with you, Vampy. Duct taping won't solve the problem, it'll only exaceberate the problem even more.
