MARIETTA, Georgia -- Police in Georgia have arrested a couple after finding their two children were obese and living in filthy conditions.
James and Anne Cardona are facing felony animal child cruelty charges.
Police responding to a domestic disturbance call found the children.
The couple's five-year-old daughter weighed 158 pounds, was covered in bug bites and had matted hair and rotten teeth. She could barely walk.
Their four-year-old girl weighed nearly 90 pounds, was wearing a soiled diaper and drinking from a bottle.
There were dirt, mold and bugs in the house.
Neighbor Larry Willis said he knew the Cardonas were struggling financially. He said that there had been no electricity or running water at the home several times this summer.
The two girls and an elderly woman living at the house are now in protective custody.
James and Anne Cardona were released from jail on $5,000 bond. They have been ordered to have no contact with their kids.
