Deputies: Woman Admits To Shooting After Neighbor Wouldn't Kiss Her
MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- A Marion County woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of firing several rounds into her neighbor's home.
According to the arrest report, Helen Staudinger, 92, told deputies she had gone to her neighbor's home around noon on Monday to speak with him.
She told deputies her neighbor, Dwight Bettner, 53, told her to leave but she refused to leave until he gave her a kiss.
Staudinger said they started to argue and she angrily left the house and went home to get her gun.
She told deputies she went back to shoot his car.
Bettner said one of the bullets came through his office window, where he was talking on the phone. He said the bullet came within inches of his head.
He said three other bullets hit the side of his house and one went into his car.
Bettner said the woman has had a crush on him for months.
He said about a month ago he told her he had a girlfriend and she became angry, even threatened to shoot him.
Staudinger declined a request for an interview.
Tuesday night she was being held at the Marion County jail on $15,000 bond.
Tuesday morning a judge ordered her to stay at least 500 feet away from Bettner.
She's facing charges of aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
