Legally I am Cuban but truly I am not Cuban. You see I left Cuba at the age of one (uno). All I know is America. All my friends growing up were (are) red-blooded Americans (gringos). I was (and am currently) not involved in the Cuban culture. I never had a life in Cuba- no memories, there is no one over there I know, nothing. My Spanish is very, very poor. I can't read it or write it. Yes I can speak it but very badly.
I do not consider myself a Cuban-American. I consider myself and American-Cuban. I do not walk, talk or have the same mind set as a Cuban from the island. I am totally Americanized in every sense regardless of what anyone says.
