I got this email from a friend of mine, moderate republican. He was so exciting when he got this news:

November 23, 2004

CONGRESS REJECTS VOLUNTARY COOL

Two wins! The amendments to make country of origin labeling (COOL)
voluntary and to exempt factory farms from certain environmental laws both
failed to make it into the Congressional spending bill this week. Many
of you sent email and called your representatives over these issues,
and we think it made a huge difference!

Thank you to all!

These amendments would have made it more difficult to know where food
comes from, and to protect our communities against the pollution of
factory farms.

We will have to continue to be vocal, as it's likely these amendments
will be introduced as legislation in the next Congressional session.

Thank you again.

I wasn't sure what this is all about until I did a little search.

I have to say I am disappointed that this bill was failed. I think most of us would want to know where our foods came from.

I am beginning to think not all of our foods are made/processed in the United States even large grocer chains like Kroger/Ralphs/etc, Publix, etc put labels on the meats saying made/processed in the United States when some came from outside the United States!

Oh no, this is what you want. If COOL bill passed, it will not require them to label on its origin and whereabout manufactured from. Hence why it's called 'Voluntary'. Many corporations want to get that bill passed so they do not have to label on its whereabout manufactured from, they can do dirty businesses with factory farms or bypass some environment labs & tests. it's neo conservatives' wet dream.

But this bill failed once again, so it mean that businesses still are to be required by current law to label on its origin and whereabout manufactured. That's exactly what you want! ;)

Edit: I am thrilling when I found out that Congress rejected this ridiculous bill (even though I must admit that I was surprised that they rejected..)
