Hi All,

I'm new on this forum. I am a hearing person, 27 years old and from the Netherlands.

I registered on this forum because I have a very specific question related to deafness and music. I am a percussionist / drummer and I play in a percussion group with 5 other people. For some reason I have always been fascinated (although that is probably not the right word) by deaf people and their ability to cope with everyday life. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to live in a "hearing" world as a deaf person.

I write percussion music myself and I am thinking of writing and performing a piece of music specially for the deaf. I am now researching this idea and I'm interested in knowing if any of you have experience with concerts or other kinds of "art performances". I would like to design an experience that uses vibration and visual elements (for instance, video projection) to convey the emotion of music to people who cannot hear it in a traditional way. I know of several attempts to do just this, but most of them require complicated vibrating chairs or are performed by hard-rock / metal bands. Do you think this is possible? Would you, as a deaf person, be interested in such a performance? Please let me know!

Regards,

Roel
