DONCASTER College for the Deaf and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have teamed up to raise awareness of specialist equipment to save the lives of deaf people who might be caught up in a fire.
The organisations want to make landlords with deaf tenants aware that special fire alarms are available.
The move follows a tragedy last year when a young deaf woman died in a house fire in Hyde Park. Bobbie Roberts, chair of the Deaf Trust, said: "A number of our students privately rent properties in the area and it is vitally important that people are kept informed of the equipment available."
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have special alarms available which consist of a smoke alarm, flash receiver and bed shaker.
