How many people here are thinking about getting cochlear implant ??

I'm just curious cat here.

*waving hands up high* I'm thinking of it too. I want Angel to go first though. :giggle:

are u that scared? why can't u go first ? :-P just pickin' on u

Honestly, I'm nervous, There are so much "what if's" like what if it doesn't work, I don't want to waste all that for nothing. You know what I mean? It's a scary thought.

yea i understand the feelings. u're not the only one, i'm sure there a lot of people thinking that way too.

I am sure that you and Angel can get the CI because I have faith in you guys. The CI surgery wasn't bad at all.. I just came out just fine. If you want to know more.. just ask me!

I am suprised that you r considering about it even tho your bf has an CI.. what was the reason made u want to consider this if you don't mind me asking?

Actually, that's not a bad mindset to have when going through the process of deciding whether you want a CI. It means that you are realistic in that you appreciate CIs don't work for everyone even though there are many successes.

It would be different story if I'm teenager... I think I'm too old to have CI and training to hear the sounds... and get use it...

I rather stay what I am.

It gave me a thought for few months before I went ahead for all kind of testings. So I am qualifed for CI. :)

I am going get one but I need to find a FUND to cover my 20% from Medicare. I do NOT want to pay 20%. I wanted all ZERO on my bill. ;)

I don't need CI. I'm very happy for who I am.

If I go for CI, I'm too old for that. I'm 41 yrs old. I don't want to go thru all over again like speech therapist, audiogolist's office, etc. And what's more what if CI doesn't work for me, I don't want to go thru the surgery again.

If my child is deaf, I don't want my child to get the CI because what if CI doesn't work for this child, I don't want this child to go thru surgery again. It's not worth it!

Look at me...I am a very successful woman without CI. I can do anything except can't hear. So what!

The most important part is to practice on your speech skills at very young age and stay on for many years. I had speech tutor twice a week since the age of 2 til I graduate from high school.

By the way, I'm profoundly deaf since birth.

I have many deaf and hearing friends. Sure, it's a lot of work for me because of frustrations, anger, sad, etc but I feel that I learned very valuable education from God related to my deafness. I learned so much from this deafness and it is a very rich learning. So, I truly am so blessed that God made me deaf because it gave me so much strengths. I'm one of great influence on others.

Warm Regards,
Momoftwo:)

While I can appreciate those who say "I'm proud of being deaf so I don't want a CI", the question being asked here is who IS considering one, not who ISN'T....

I got mine 2 years ago and love every minute of it. Naturally, it is not a cure and it is not like I could practically hear everything but it has enhanced my life and I am grateful for that :)

I see more and more people around my age - 20s and 30s - opting for a CI. I think it is wonderful because it shows that more are becoming educated and aware of this wonderful tool. Ever since I got my CI, four of my girlfriends got their CIs. Guess I was their guinea pig ;)
