It's something that you become attuned to with time and practice (just like learning to play an instrument)
I play piccolo and have no problem whatsoever feeling the pitches at all - it's about learning HOW you feel them that is the "tricky" part which most hearing people don't "get" because they primary use their ears to listen to SOUNDS instead of using their BODY to interpret (listen to) vibrations![]()
Agreed. I am from a very musical family. And it isn't just pitch you feel, it is timbre, as well. I feel different instruments and different voices in various parts of my body. For instance, my SO is an R&B and blues singer with a big old round voice. I can feel it reaching my chest area and then just surrounding me. My nephew, also and R&B and blues singer has a voice that I feel crawling up my arms. When the two of them hit a really tight harmony, I get cold chills all over my body. A trumpet will hit me in the chest area. A bass gets me in the solar plexis. I used to think that everyone had kinesthetic responses to musical sound, but I have since learned that it is either innate in some and taught in others.
You'll get more in tune with your feeling. When I sleep in an apartment I can feel who is upstairs, who is downstairs, and who is walking down the hallway without seeing them. While sleeping in my bed I can feel my neighbor across the hall, two doors down leaving for work.. The only reason I can identify who is who without seeing them is having the ability to feel across the sound wave spectrum.
