Damn, China officials did confirm that it will rather see unification of Korea!

"China supports the "independent and peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula" and cannot afford to give the North Korean regime the impression it has a blank cheque to act any way it wants, Chinese officials based in Europe said today."

just a mere gripe.

but that confirmed my previous post in other thread - NK is bound for collapse.

Yeah they will be better off much when they are re-unified. we know the life in NK is very miserable.

indeed indeed but... these NK people... it's gonna be incredibly daunting... It's like Somalia x 10. They will experience cultural shock in all directions. Possibly many of them have deep fear or anger toward "free people" because they blamed them for their poverty and misery.

It's much more feasible to do this way - 2 governments, 1 "Supreme" leader. Let the transition slowly begins and reintroduce North Koreans to modern era. Perhaps give it another 10+ years and they'll reunite once again as another superpower in East Asia. The 2nd East Asian country with nuclear capability.

.... and I still ain't moving to Korea  I don't like its food and I don't like atmosphere in Korea.

I agree with your assessment. It is the best way to give them time to adapt their life under the reunification. It is also important to re-assure China that their political/social/economic systems would not be affected in any ways.

Jiro what's wrong with the food over there vs here at your Mother's home and elsewhere?

I wonder what we can do about money situation for NK. Are we gonna hand out $$$ to each of them? :dunno:

lol same old excuse that Chinese government hears for over 5,000 years

what happens in the end? they conquered them! that's why it's such a big country!

I don't eat much Korean food at home. It's mostly Italian, American, and something else. Korean food is the very least favorite for me

Ahhh, the Americanization of Jiro!

I was born like that. I remember I didn't even like Korean food when I was very little. I threw a hissy fit. lol poor mom.

If I were to live in Asia - it'd probably be China. or Taiwan. or Hong Kong. Chinese food.... Perhaps I'm more of Chinese than Korean? :hmm:

I disagree on the approach on "slow"...maybe similar to "shock therapy" like Poland (definitely not like Russia...size of country and levels of neighbors and corruption matter) ...I'm not that familiar with the S. Korea voting system or Germany re-unification details...need coffee...

but don't S. Koreans celebrate the same holidays?

lol..... that's like saying.... "don't America and Canada celebrate the same holidays? why? because they're "North America."

They celebrate Happy New Year the same. Asian countries celebrate the Chinese New Year.

the only difference is... North Korea is completely blocked off from the world. No radio, no tv, no newspaper, absolutely NOTHING. The only entertainment and news they get is what the government provides. If I remember correctly - they have only 2 tv channels but it's mostly Kim Jong-Il's propaganda and rhetoric speeches.

Pyongyang is however more modern compared to other NK's cities/towns. There's a store in Pyongyang that sells a few MP3 players, digital cameras, etc. I imagine this is reserved for "upper class".

Same sort of "technological" shock observed by Germans in regards to the eastern portion of Berlin when the wall fell.

How'd Poland do?

He's my twin....errr...more cynical, male, older, and Korean version of me? xD xD <3 <3

I was just quoting you when I said there would be a culture clash if North and South Korea reunified.

You stated they both have the same culture as they both celebrate the same holidays.

:cool2:

Now your saying there will be culture shock.
