I am about halfway through school studying to become an ASL interpreter.
I'm going into my kids school this week to talk about 28 September being the international day of sign languages. I'll share some things from my Deaf Culture class, the things from here on the thread about what the Deaf would like hearing people to know, and the ASL alphabet.
The teachers have asked for some books they could read to the 3rd and 4th graders.
The library has nothing. I'll order some books from Amazon and donate them to the school library but I don't want to get anything that talks about a deaf character as someone who needs pity, is less than, etc.
Anyone have some suggestions?
