On Sunday, with one of my customers, I sold 2 bikes to 2 students. They were both women probably in late teens or early 20s. They wanted to pay by check. I had to tell them that I did not want check. Therefore, one of the woman wrote a check to the other woman. The other woman then went to ATM machine for cash and bought both bikes. Ok, I got my cash. That is what counts.

I did not want to tell the woman who ran to ATM machine that she should not be taking check from her friend or anyone for that matter. For all I know, the check would be good.

I would have said something, but I did not think it was my place to give some "adult" advice or be a father figure. It was my job to sell the bikes and I did it.

Well, you're absolutely correct....sort of like "been there, done that"....We all have to learn one way or the other.

When I was moving back East from Calf. I had a yard sale and a person wanted to pay for my bed with a check and I told him 'cash only'. As for the two women , you just have to hope they're really good friends. The guy that brought my bed came back wanting his money back as the bed was too big. He was out of luck , it was done. I guess it is a good idea to say if the sale is a final sale or not and put it writing to protect yourself .

You need not to mix business and personal. Anything outside of your business is none of your business anyway. That is how American business does. The objective of your business is pretty straightforward and simple, its calling "Making money". You made money, and you wanted the most secured method. Cash is the most secured method for business. But be aware, sometimes cash can be funny money. Hope you verified that the cash is real.

You did well.

First of all, it's not your business if they between them accept cheque from whomever.
Secondly, if you started patronizing them, you might have lost your whole deal with them.

Good thinking!!

They're young? Let them make mistake and they'll learn from it.

When you sell something.. and you want cash only. Let the customers deal with how to provide cash.. simply put. If they drive 200 miles to get cash...it's their decision. Once you get your hard cold cash on your hands....just smile and say thanks!! You should be a happy camper....
