An eight-year-old deaf boy who got a traffic ticket after taking a family car for a joyride won't face a charge of driving without a license.
Prosecutors dropped the charge at Kobie Stires' arraignment Wednesday, and instead referred the case to the state Department of Children and Families.
Kobie — who has been deaf since birth — was ticketed in August for driving without a license by the Hernando County sheriff's office after borrowing a car his mother had been driving.
Witnesses said he drove approximately two miles and ran over a street sign before returning the car. The four-foot-tall boy caused about five-thousand-dollars in damage to the car.
At the time, Kobie's mother said, "I'm taking this as a sign that I've got a lot of trouble on my hands."
