Center starts program for the hearing-impaired - Press-Telegram
The Center Long Beach has started a social and support group for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
"Sign On" is open to anyone 18 years old and older who is deaf, hard of hearing or knows how to sign, not just the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, said Daryl Arthur, one of the group's three facilitators.
The group has three goals - provide a safe environment for an informal discussion on topics pertinent to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community; explore personal experiences that will enlighten and empower members of this diverse community and provide an opportunity to meet others who are seeking social support and possibly want to start new friendships, Arthur said.
The meetings, conducted in American Sign Language, are from 7 to 8:30 tonight at The Center, 2017 E. Fourth St.
