I just LOL to people who are wearing tin foil hats thinking that Census is a way to identify them and send them to concentration camps.

second here, I lol'd.

Demograhics are beneficial....,but the issue remains, Does the goernment have the right to force you to give this information with the threat of penalty? I say no.

came up with this interesting post from some google search

Although the US Code carries penalties for failing to respond to the Census, no one has been prosecuted for this since 1960. And in 1960, two poor souls out of millions got fined $100 each.

This is largely an empty threat made to bully people into responding. Millions ignore many Census questions and some refuse to answer any of them. Enforcing this $100 fine would be impossible.

ok ya'all. it's just a simple matter of miscommunication and misunderstanding. let us all move on to constructive criticism about this.

I want to ask ya'all a question and I only need yes or no.

When deciding to move somewhere, would you like to live in a community of certain parameters such as certain % of specific race, average salary range, etc?

In bold, yup, it is important.

Maria, I'm sorry about misunderstand your post, however I found that you are required to fill out due law so check Jiro's post above.

Oh I know.......I know many that got the long form in 2000. None of them filled it out completely. They are still free....lol

That government doesn't have a right to ask us for additional information. If people want to volunteer that info that is up to them.

Oh yes, the government has every right to ask you for additional questions as long as it's relevant to the federal/state programs. It's in the Constitution!

Had a census person stop by my house! Kids and I are accounted for!!

:D

so is it in their Constitution to ask us a question like this? "Because of a physical, mental or emotional condition lasting six months or more, does this person have any difficulty in doing any of the following activities: Learning, remembering or concentrating: Yes or No?; Dressing, bathing or getting around inside the home: Yes or No?"

Don't see where they can ask about who you work for.

I don't see where it said they can't ask about it :hmm:

wwwooooo a whopping 64-pages of questions!

Questions Planned for the 2010 Census and ACS - source | PDF file

Our Census is far different from yours....

Over 12.7 million households, 32.5 million people were expected to be counted. Canada Post delivered census forms by mail to 70% of the country, primarily residents in urban areas. Census enumerators delivered to the remaining 30% of households. Every fifth home received the long questionnaire (53 questions versus 8 questions on the short form). For the first time, Canadian residents were able to go online to fill in their forms. Statistics Canada expected approximately 20% of households to file their surveys electronically. Persistent census staff are contacting tardy households. The total estimated cost of the 2006 census is $567 million spread over seven years, employing more than 25,000 full and part-time census workers.

Most of us only had to answer 8 questions while some had to answer 53 questions. How about that, eh?

Read that bold statement - they can by LAW ask questions relevant to federal and state programs. Congress made those questions and the President signed them.

Also, note that the questionnaire is one of the shortest in history. Stop whining.

where you think where I got the question from? out of my :booty: ?

Yes, your yellow ass.

:giggle:

OK JIRO, I take it back.. those questions come from the questionnaire! It was listed under DISABILITY.

I guess I have to kiss your yellow ass now. lol

I don't see where it said they can't ask about it :hmm:

No it doesn't...but it does give the purpose.
