Cell phone restrictions begin today
Tuesday, July 01, 2008
By JUSTIN CARINCI, Columbian Staff Writer

The hand-held cell phone ban for drivers is finally here. And if the highways this morning are any indication, some people still don't know.

Or they're willing to risk a $124 ticket if they're pulled over.

If it seems the ban snuck up on you, don't blame the Washington Legislature. It passed the law more than a year ago.

In January, as a warm-up, the ban on texting while driving took effect. Now it's holding a cell phone to one's ear that's forbidden.

So put the phone on speaker mode, attach an earpiece, or just hang up and drive.

Read more about the new law here.

The text of the law itself is here.

Thank god that this cell phone is banned in the cars so that they won't ignore me when I was in their cars

It is only for Washington State area. Did you know?
  • Using a hand-held cell phone while driving becomes against the law in Washington starting on Tuesday.
  • Washington joins six other states and the District of Columbia in the hand-held phone ban, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
  • Unlike in some other states, drivers in Washington may not be ticketed only for cell phone use; there must be a primary offense.

so not all states are not banned.. but wish it is... cuz it is dangerous.. as it can caused accidents.

It already banned in Chicago area too, you need to be hand free, such as use bluetooth headphone.
