A Boise cat shelter will hold a lottery to determine the new owner of a one-eyed feline called Valentine after a 12-year-old boy shot her in the head with an arrow.

The stray was rescued in January and taken to a Garden City veterinarian who removed the arrow, which was lodged in the cat's eye and sticking out the back of its head for a week.

The boy told police he was trying to scare the cat away from some quail and did not intend to hit it.

Valentine is now partially blind and deaf on her left side.

Sheri Schneider, director of the Simply Cats shelter, says the cat should be ready for adoption on March 24. The shelter requires an application and interview as part of the adoption process.

After several intense surgeries Valentine is back on her feet and ready to get adopted. Some are even calling her the miracle cat.

Remember Valentine? The cat was left blind and deaf on her left side when a 12-year old boy said he accidentally shot her with an arrow back in January.

"Very terrified being approached on the left side because she can't see or hear on the left side at all," said the Executive Director of "Simply Cats" Shelter Sheri Schneider.

Valentine also tested positive for F-I-V, a disease that affects her immune system.

The director of the Simply Cats Shelter said luckily Valentine does not need any special medication from her injuries or her disease.

"She's actually been deemed healthy and adoptable by our vet," said Schneider.

Valentine needs a few more weeks to get use to her new environment and then she'll be able to get adopted to her new family.

Schneider said so many people were touched by Valentine's story that people have been donating money and she's been sponsored three times.

But before you can adopt any cat the shelter wants to make sure she goes to the right home, but she does seem to realize she's somewhat of a star.

"She loves having the camera out and taking pictures she's a wonderful kitty and we're just really thrilled that we were able to help her out," said Schneider.

So many people expressed interest in adopting valentine that there will be a drawing held on March 24th to decide who will get to take valentine home.

Animal cruelty charges are pending against the boy who shot the arrow.
 
I hope she gets a great home. I also hope the boy gets some consequences.
 
That's just heartbreaking she was even injured like that in the first place. Poor kitty - stuck with that arrow for a WEEK !!! So glad she is getting ready for adoption now.
