Cat found with arrow in its eye finds a home | KATU.com - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weather - Portland, Oregon | Local & Regional
A cat that captured the hearts of Idaho's Treasure Valley early in 2009 has finally found a home.
In January 2009, the cat pictured to the left was found with an arrow through its head, struggling to hang on to life. Prosecutors said a 12-year-old boy in Idaho's Gem County shot the stray cat after he said he was trying to protect quail the cat was chasing.
The cat, nicknamed "Valentine," underwent successful brain surgery at West Vet Emergency and Specialty Center in Garden City. The female cat will be blind and deaf on her left side for the rest of her life.
But for more than a year Valentine waited for a home at Simply Cats, a no-kill cat shelter in Boise.
What made the adoption difficult is that Valentine has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, which is similar to HIV in humans. The virus damages the cat's immune system leading to a series of secondary infections that may become fatal.
On Wednesday, we received news from Simply Cats that Valentine has found a permanent home.
