Canada to Boycott Ahmadinejad at U.N., Unclear if U.S. Will Join

I am supportive of whatever Canada decides to do with Iran.

Iran was one of those thing that challenged my belief: at one point does wielding nuclear power invalidate your sovereignty since it is something that affect the entire world?

The concept of developing nuclear weapons really threw the wrench into "every country should stay out of each others' affairs" belief.
 
Damn to Iran so time to impose a completely embargo against Iran.

Or let South Africa continue its apartheid regime today? I know it's not around anymore, but economic sanctions broke the back of the apartheid government.

Either way, they are intent on making nuclear weapons. They are intent in going in their own direction and not be dictated by other countries. If sanctions fail, what's the next option? And we know that the UN doesn't have the guts to enforce it.

Sanction does work in some cases like Cuba is very poorer country after embargo has adopted, also North Korea has hunger problem, not enough food available to feed the people and recent sanction has adopted against NK by UN so we have wait and see about what NK would do.

so...... since you said sanction does not work, do you think we should just lift the sanction on North Korea? yes or no?

That's where you are wrong. UN is capable of peacemaking. Look at the Iraq-Kuwait War and the Korean War, so they do have the guts to enforce their mandates.

The biggest barrier to the UN not being able to send in peacemaking forces is when people play politics, like the Soviet Union and China using their veto powers.

It doesn't work. They have not reversed themselves because of the sanctions. They are still maintaining the direction of obtaining/making nuclear armaments.

The six parties involved in the failed talks to stop North Korea’s nuclear activities are China, the US, Russia, Japan and North and South Korea.

North Korea sent a letter to the council Sep 3, saying it needed not reply to the UN sanctions panel that sought more information on the ship.

The letter said nuclear activities and firing of missiles were taken to counter the “high-handed act and threat” by the international community to deprive Pyongyang of its “rights to peaceful economic construction.”

North Korea said it has also completed a new phase in its uranium enrichment programme and plutonium that has been extracted is being weaponized.

yes it does work.

because of sanction - NK and Iran does not have superior military capability. because of sanction - Iran and NK are not significant nuclear-capable country
because of sanction - all they got is bunch of hot air out of their mouth but no big guns to back it up

The goal was for them to stop with the goal of making nuclear armaments by getting them to drop the nuclear weapon program. They haven't.

i opened my eyes and i see the result of sanctions. that's why they haven't succeeded in producing a viable nuclear weapon.

Yep, and you bet if they do make a viable weapon-- South Korea would had flatten them by now, and China would be staying out of it this time.

It's kinda sad when a neighbouring Communist country doesn't support you anymore... haven't been receiving anything from China since the '60s anyway, and when the Soviet Union fell... well... it's on its last leg now.
