Does anybody know how one gets the presidential candidates to answer questions about Deaf issues? Is there a way to pose a quesiton before the next debate in Penn? If so will ya let me know? And, if you could ask one question, what would it be concerning Deaf issues?

I don't know how to do it to get them to answer but I would like to know from them why children aren't given a chance in the main stream schools to learn sign language? The only way for a kid to learn sign in my whole county is to learn from someone who already knows it outside of the education system. Deaf history and deaf culture need to be a part of the curriculum in schools. Just because you don't talk about us doesn't mean we will go away. We need more public awareness, are any of the candidates going to pass any laws or advocate any kind of change to make our society more educated as to what it is like to life a life like we do?

Those are great questions. I am trying to figure out how to get a quetion into their forum. If we can get a consensus or majority of people to agree on one of two questions, then we will know what to ask. I definitely agree that Deaf history and culture should be taught along with American History. Actually, it is American History. They should make Triumph of the Spirit a required reading.!

I have been trying to figure out how to get ASL into the public schools here in our area of Oregon. You can look in the title ASL in public schools and see the discussion there. Unfortunately, I posed the question wrong when I started that thread, but if you read the posts, I finally got it right towards the end... LOL... Be patient and gentle with me,,,, LOL... I am still old...
