In the morning I quickly tried to turn on my TV but the power was out. I turned on my radio to hear them saying, "Hays school district, closed." I was so happy I ran downstairs to tell my family! Everything was flooded, trees were knocked over, and the power lines down the road were knocked over too. The water was all brown from the mud.
At the time we lived in San Marcos and the yard down the hill at our house was flooded half way up our yard! We packed our stuff in a hurry and loaded our luggage in the car. When we left, there was already water flowing over it.
We stayed out of school for a few days due to lost power in some places. We just so happened to be one of those places. This is one experience I will never forget.

Any help would be appreciated

Just try to figure out how to make the story shorten like a picture in your mind. You don't have to use complete sentences. Use sign and mime to express what you are trying to tell the story about what happen to you in this difficult situation. I can not help you on this story. You have to figure out yourself. Expression is the key with the help of ASL. So good luck. :cool2:

You have to set up where you lived and the weather situation before you go into the school closing announcement and other details.

I read that in ASL you start from the biggest thing and move to the smallest thing..
so maybe:

begin: long long ago, power was out, school was closed for days. Why?

A. where you lived at the time (on a hill, house at the top of hill?)
B. you going to sleep
C. overnight, weather that happened (rain, wind, show water rising rising rising)

1. waking up
2. radio says: school close
3. talk to parents; happy about school being closed today. parents point to window.
4. You all look outside window: yard (show width) is half covered with water
5. parents worried, they say "let's evacuate"
6. describe bag: big? color? what goes in it?
7. show you and parents get into the car.
8. yard is flooding over
9. drive away. See power lines down, other floods, fallen trees

10. ...will never forget this. Very scared? Confused?

o_o I'm new to ASL but this is how I would try to break it up.
I want to try storytelling this year too.... But I need more vocab / grammar first 8)
