British girl 'smarter than Einstein'

That was the theme of my first civics class I taught...they were like why are Hitler and Jesus in the same category?!

This reminds me of the theme of my Honors English class at Gally and the theme was how ideas changed the world around you. Examples like Adam Smith, Karl Marx for their economic theories and Burke who is said to be the father of conservatism (though I think many think Reagan invented it) comes to mind. Their ideas changed the world around them.

I didn't know you were at Gally.

I love classes like that. :h5:

You don't need to be a genius to change the world (and not always for the better). I can think of people like Martin Lurther, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Hitler etc.

Not to rain on your parade but just how did they change the world? Rev. King's message certainly did not help the blacks, look at America and the world today. Lurther's message did not help anything because the division of religion is ongoing. Gandhi, try as hard as he did, can only roll over in his grave as Indians kill and hate each other. Hilter, as you said not always for the better, did not wake us all up because even today one race is trying to wipe out another. Again, not to show any disrespect, my point is the world can change the world, not any one individual can do it alone.

Tis a domino effect. You can influence how people think. That itself changes the world.

King = showed whites the harm done to blacks in the south (also, thank you television)
Luther= Spread of Protestantism, wars, religious philosophy, etc...there is something called "Lutheranism" :o

And Hitler...sad as it sounds, there are positive things that came out of WWII. My sister country, for one.

I don't believe in the "butterfly effect" so much as the "domino" effect. My culture/religion teaches that you can impact the world. It depends on what you do with your talents. That's why killing the life of one is like killing the whole world...all the accomplishments that *could've* happened from each succeeding generation are wiped out. :(

sorry...not trying to get OT...but I think we look at "geniuses" and hope, "Oh, okay, you can figure things out that I can't...maybe your domino effect will help future generations."

Not to be nitpicky, I don't think anyone knows who Lurther is.

it was actually in North too and Democratic states. Remember D-Governor Wallace?

Good point. I was thinking of the violence shown on tv and pictures of little kids getting arrested for protesting.
