It does not come out of the vagina.. period. two separate holes....

Vagina is the "birth canal" Urethra is where women exit urine.

The penis also has an Urethra. Which has a dual role. semen is exited from it as well as Urine.

Get it?
 
If we are going to compare and contrast male and female genito-urinary tracts and sexual organs, here goes:

The clitoris can be compared to the male penis. The testicular sac can be compared to the majora labia that has fused on the male and is unfused on the female, and the testes are comparable to the ovaries in the female. They are descended in the male and undescended in the female. In fact, all fetuses begin as female.

I agree. Just when I think I've formed some sort of an opinion, someone else makes another point and makes me re-think things.

I think Robin said that they should house transexuals seperately and I tend to agree with this. I know that brings up the point of segregation, but this is truly a difficult situation and there needs to be a plan to house transmen/women in our prison system. As it stands now, they use a haphazard method to place a transexual prisoner and that gives way to even more issues later on.

I agree with you, but that's too progressive for the officials that run our prison system. In the meantime, we need to come up with a way to keep these people safe. Prison is a place where they go to serve out a sentence for wrong doing. It is NOT a place where people go to be raped/murdered. Sadly, that often happens; especially in men's prisons all across this country.

It just brings up so many issues as well. She is a woman but in a mans body. She is in the process of getting surgery to complete it. What will the other women think of it when they find out. Surely it is just as dangerous of her being in the Mens population. The Ladies find out her original organs were. She will be in just as much danger.

which is why her name was not mentioned in the article but I hope the guards won't leak it out to prisoners

In that case, I think it would be much safer for her to be placed in the female prison. In a male prison she will immediately be seen as weak and an easy target, despite her having a penis. From a psychosocial point of view, it only makes sense that she should be placed in the female prison.

Lets also factor in that some in transition opts for having the breasts removed (in the case of a female to male transgendered person), but rarely opt to have their genitals reconstructed.

In this case, she may opt to have her genitals reconstructed at some pt. Let us also realize that transitioning from one gender to another happens over time. It's not something one does in a few months time. It often takes years to happen. There are just so many factors that go into this. I don't think we'll ever have a good system in place to properly house transgendered/transgendering individuals.

I agree. For her safety.

One thing. If her name was changed is that on Public record. Inmates do have access to other inmates "public records"
 
I feel the need to make this clear, because I keep seeing the term "transgendered" used to describe this individual. She is not "transgender". She is a pre-operative transsexual, meaning that she is in the process of completing the transitional phase which included hormonal therapy to increase the fat in the breasts and to atrophy the testicles and reduce the amount of testosterone produced, and increase the level of estrogen produced.

A transgender is a biologic male or female that simply lives as the opposite gender without undertaking the medical treatment necessary to actually change their sex. Sex is a biologic category (male/female) while gender is socially constructed and accepted behaviors attributed to a sex.

A transsexual seeks to actually change their biologic identity, a transgender seeks only to change their social identity.
