The troubled child told a teacher. :( He was ignored basically. They did not even monitor him, much less took action to report him to crisis intervention.


If the boy would have told the teacher he was going to shoot someone. The teacher would have jumped to the opportunity to call law enforcement. How twisted is that. Threat to any life even themselves should be taken seriously.

**nodding agreement** This wasn't just a kid acting out in class, but it was an explicit suicide threat. Even implicit threats of suicide froma child should be taken seriously and acted upon immediately.
 
This is so sad.

I see that the teacher did tell another staff member, but I think that all that did was just waste time. She should have gone directly to or call directly to 911/law enforcement and reported the suicide threat and then an ambulance would have been called and came and have taken the boy to the hospital for a psychological/psychiatric evaluation. This would have saved the boy's life. If a child has told me: "I feel like I want to kill myself" or anything like that I would jump up and immediately called 911 and reported the threat no matter what, and wasted NO time in doing so. I would not bother to tell anyone else first, I would call 911 FIRST and that way help would have come much quicker than if I just simply shared the child's comments with another staff member or someone else. 911 is much quicker than this. So, I think the school should have been charged with negligence.

It's so sad that the child was only 10 years old. My heart goes out to the little boy. So young, and he died so young. :(
