Born deaf, a Pinellas County girl starts school - and hears the school bell

An important issue is addressed in that article - the reading and writing level of those who are born deaf. While it is true that many deaf have poor English skills, it is NOT the result of being deaf. It is the direct result of there not being enough resources or knowledge in mainstream public education schools on how to educate the deaf properly.
