I work in an organization that produces a number of books and videos (captioned). For some of those books and videos we translate them and make them available as ASL videos.

I would love help from this community to help me better understand the value of translating a book or captioned movie into ASL. I realize that ASL is probably preferred for many people, but I am trying to understand how much it is really needed in all situations. Here are some of my questions:

Are there some types of media where you would rather read a book or read captions than watch an ASL video? (For example, maybe a textbook or an instruction manual?)

Are there some types of materials where ASL video is more important than others?

Lastly, are there good examples of popular movies or books (besides the Bible) that have been translated into ASL? (Harry Potter for example).

Thanks- I appreciate any insight that anyone has to share!
