Rule of thumb: don't do any finger-pointing, or it will come back to bite you in the ass when you slip up.

And that's a humble, humble lesson I learned 6 or 7 months ago. Big-time.

I'm talking about the lady in the article from what I read. She seemed to have lived the life of a lie, despite her mental illness, by denying that she has a serious problem hoarding things to such an extreme. Either she denied she ever had a problem and didn't do anything about it, or she knew she had a problem and didn't seek or want help.

Humbled? Well, I guess you learned your lesson then?

Like I said... don't point fingers at others, or when YOUR dirty secrets come to the surface, whether you acknowledge them or not, others will take advantage of.

Too many times I see people point fingers, including myself, at others, only to find that they got caught for doing the same thing they frowned upon.

That is completely uncalled for, and such statement not be looked upon lightly on other forums.

I certainly don't jump on the band wagon on a daily basis just for the sake of it and because somebody else has a different opinion of things.

Hoarding isnt a new problem, this has existed ever since man has started collecting stuff. What's new is the psychological approach to it rather than just the physical approach to it. What we are finding out is that hoarders come from all walks of life, not just poor folks. We also learn that hoarders tend to have underlying undiagnosed mental health problems, and physical health problems that may have been exacerbated by the hoarding.

Very true, Dixie. Rather than seeing it as the problem, we are beginning to recognize the fact that it is simply a symptom of an underlying problem.

Being overly judgemental of the behaviors of others is symptomatic of several mental disorders, especially when one relies on less than accurate perception to make that judgement.

Karma's a bitch.

My father used to say, "What goes around, comes around. And if you aren't careful, it will knock you out on the return trip." It would appear that some have to be knocked out several times before getting the message.:giggle:

Who? I think jumping on the band wagon repeatedly pretty much covers that.

Are you describing yourself???

Denial is a strong defense mechanism.:cool2:

And ad hominem attacks are a sure sign that you have absolutely nothing to contribute to the thread. Just another attempt at judgement.:cool2:

So, asking questions are now ad hominem attacks? Interesting.

The manner in which you ask them, and the implication that is so obvious is, yes. You are not as sneaky as you would like to think you are.

Now, do you have something productive to add to the discussion of hoarding?

The woman was obviously very ill. The health dept would have just evicted her and declared the place uninhabitable. Then there would have been a mentally ill woman forced to live on the streets. She needed the help of mental health professionals.

yes she was vey ill , she niece told me she went off her med's! and the niece show we how bad the place ! I was shocked! I never saw the apartment as the woman did not open her door very wide to leave or go in!
She went into a nursing home. I have a new neighbor now and he is very neat and clean!!

I'm glad that your former neighbor is now in a place that helps her manage her illness, and that you are pleased with your new neighbor.
