Boarding Kennel

I am going out of town, and my cat is my first cat pet. I would rather leave him at a boarding kennel. The travel will be long and stressful. Has anyone had to leave your pet (preferrably cats) at a boarding kennel? I have no clue about them, but I will ask recommendations from my vet and the shelter. Any advice? I am also thinking about a pet sitter, but we are nervous about that because it's a stranger coming into our home. There's my next door neighbor that's the only person we trust, but I am not really sure about giving her the responsibility, so I'd rather look for a pet sitter or a boarding kennel. Advice? Advice?

heyy.. :) i have the same problem when i was in your shoe.... i understand completely about your concerns!

what i did was to ask my friend who would be willing to check on my pets while im gone on vacation.. i would pay my friends at a reasonable price. at first naturally i was worried but after while i realized its better than send my pets at the boarding kennel. the reason i felt that is because when i did with my first dog... i sent him to the boarding kennel for a week then i came home and picked my dog up.. come to a horrible panic experince.. my dog was all filled up with flea! i was so upset... i bought it to VET and said whats up! the Vet said it wasnt flea. it was allergic react.. they shampooed my dog even i told them not to use that certain shampoo.. i realize i couldnt trust boarding kennel.. but of course not all are the same.. soo i felt its more safer if my friend "babysit" my pets.. just to check in on them 3 times a day..

we have left our dogs at barking dog kennels, it has been very helpful and they have a MAJOR vip stay! swimming pool AC nice beds and place to run and play. im just glad when we all have to leave house for a long period of time, then we gotta leave them at barking dog kennels so at least it's all good!

what u wanna do is, go to the kennel for a walk through u are allowed to do that, ask questions abt the place where your cat will stay and how u can transistion your cat to understand that you will be back and etc. check the prices and most of all check the location for good cleanliness. and thier roation of shift changes. so the cat wont be stressed out too bad.

Thank you. It looks like it may not be such a big deal lol. My mom found a place, and she checked it out. She said it was nice and clean. Of course, I still worry like he's my child lol, but he won't be there long. I have got to learn to trust. I don't have anyone to check him out to be real honest. Thank you guys. So rude of the kennel not to follow your instruction. The paper say they have a place for dogs WITH a TV. So odd but very funny. I have never had a dog in my house to know what they really are like. My cat is my first experience. I have caught my cat watching tv a few times and touch the screen with his paws. It was so cute and funny.
