Bluetooth bonus gives deaf TV joy | The Sun |Woman|Health|Health

THE hard of hearing no longer need to turn the volume right up or resort to subtitles to enjoy their favourite telly shows.

A new hearing aid has been unveiled which enables wearers to have their own personal volume control.

The gadget uses the same Bluetooth wireless technology found in mobile phone hands-free headsets to connect to compatible TVs.

It means sufferers can adjust the sound to exactly the right level for them - without deafening family and friends. The device also hooks up to mobile and landline phones, allowing wearers to hear callers without having to hold a receiver.

Available from opticians Specsavers, who have 400 hearing centres across the UK, the aid is already a favourite of former Dynasty and Coronation Street star Stephanie Beacham.

The 62-year-old actress says: "I was elated to find out this technology would help my hearing after spending most of my life silent on one side.

"The Bluetooth magic means I can answer my phone while driving just by tapping a pendant around my neck."

Colin Campbell, audiologist at Specsavers, adds: "Instead of the volume getting too loud, they'll be the only ones able to hear the change. Arguments over the loudness of the TV will be a thing of the past."

Prices start from £1,594.
