Blind woman owns vending machine; rest stop closes

She said she would lose $3,500 to $4,000. That is a lot of money. :(

"She said the state could have at least let her know they were closing the rest stop.
“They don’t seem to care,” she said."

Of course the state doesn't care. They just do the minimum to skate by.

Sad for her. It's a lot of money.

it's sad that she lost a lot of money. However, I have hard time seeing how someone would make $3K or $4K worth of sales from vending machine over a weekend even if it is Labor Day weekend.

Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I just cannot see that much being spent on vending machine.

:dunno: It did say that she worked out of two rest stops so maybe that's the amount for both.

I also feel sorry for the travelers who didn't have any place to stop for the bathrooms either. That can be very unpleasant.

I'm sure that people don't buy chips from gas station for .50 cents and then put it in vending machine for .50. They have to make money some how. I'm sure a lot of travelers know that. SO they decide it's better use of money to buy chip from gas station for .50 than to buy it at rest stop for $1.

For vending machines, the snacks are usually sold at wholesale. The M&M's candies are normally 75 cents but at wholesale sale, they are 25 cents so vendor sold for 75 cents with 50 cents in profit.
