A MECHANIC is facing jail after admitting spiking a workmate's drink with anti-freeze, leaving him blind and deaf.
Keith Lamb, 45, put the substance in a bottle of Coke following a row with Martin Bingley at Alwoodley Motors in Leeds.
The ex-Rugby League referee did not realise he had drunk the sweet-tasting chemical - and Lamb did not own up until it was too late to treat the effects.
Mr Bingley's wife Sally has quit her job to look after the dad-of-two who has no limb co-ordination.
Lamb, of Moortown, yesterday pleaded guilty at Sheffield Crown Court to causing a poison to be taken with intent. He spoke only to change his plea.
Andrew Haslam, for Lamb, said: "The defendant regrets the prank went so tragically wrong."
The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports.
