I've decided to go back on birth control. The last time I was on it was 2007ish and the world of birth control has changed since I last visited!

What do you ladies use and what are the pros/cons of your choice? I definitely don't want to go on the pill. My life is generally unpredictable and active and I don't trust myself to take it at the same time every day. I don't want Depo either- I read the reviews and it seems like it's the worst. Yes, it prevents pregnancy but the side effects.... YIKES!

So far, trycylen and yasmin look good.. Yay? Nay? What else?

Are you having sex quite frequently, or more a once in a while thing? (Like once a week or less.)

If you aren't with a regular partner, and sex is not all that frequent, honestly I'd go with the old-fashioned, tried and true method of condoms. Keep a few handy with you; try the different styles and textures.

Just my opinion and instinctive reaction, but ANY chemical/hormonal method has an effect on your body. A biochemist friend of mine once described hormonal birth-control as "using a sledge-hammer on a gnat."

If you're having sex frequently maybe it's worth it, but if not, why put your body through the hormonal changes. Plus the condoms will protect fairly well against STDs, too, which the other methods won't.

Low dose Birth Control such as, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo or Lo Ovral seems to have less side effects. Yasmin and Tri-cylen are higher doses and more side effects.

They have Estradiol birth control patches or the Birth control ring also.

No birth control is 100 percent effective.

Saying "no" will work, too.

Oh, thanks for that info :)

I'm not just taking it to prevent pregnancy, though I really really do not want to get preg at this time of my life.. It's also because my cramps have been worse this year and irregular.

I'm on the pill and have been since... uh. 2005. Wow. I went through maybe six different brands and I don't even remember them at all! Yasmin is definitely a good one and it actually helped some women lose some weight, not gain!

You could try the shot, but I would be cautious of it because one of my friends had that and bled for about six months straight. O_O It's kinda 50/50.

Oh, and another of my friend got the patch thing. It looked unsightly and reminded me of nicotine.

Have you seen your gyno? You might have fibroids. Are you old enough to be pre-menopausal?

Haha! When I was in the hospital getting prepped for the clipping, I grabbed my gynecologist by the arm and said "make sure this is 100% effective. I DO NOT WANT BABIES!" He knew I was dead dead serious. But we had a long long talk beforehand so he knew how crucial it was to me that this is a permanent procedure.

Have had no problems since. Knock on wood.

I liked Yasmin. If you decide to go with condoms, be sure to use a spermicide because it improves the effectiveness drastically.

I was on the pill when I got pregnant. ;)

Oh god, no.. I'm 26 haha

OK, seriously, you need to see your gyno asap re: the changes in your periods. It sounds very much like fibroids to me. If you don't want to lose your baby-making ability, you want to get those treated. Lots of methods to do it without a hysterectomy, but those methods are best done while the fibroids are still smallish.

I ended up with a hysto due to fibroids, but I was 47 at the time and it was a great relief. If you're only 26, and I'm assuming no kids yet, you want to preserve the factory as long as possible!

It's not but thanks for your concern :ty:

oh my... what have I stumbled into? :io:

OK, good to hear it.

I went through a lot of pain and aggravation before having it done; wouldn't wish that on ANY-body.
