A bill authorizing $838,000 in renovations at the South Dakota School for the Deaf prompted a veteran lawmaker Tuesday to suggest deaf education be evaluated.
Sen. Jerry Apa, R-Lead, said the Sioux Falls-based school has 36 students.
"I think we are going to have to decide how can these students best be served," said Apa, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The committee voted 5-3 to support the bill, which includes money to renovate the Miklebust Recreation Building
