I completely addicted to this game. It is nearly realistic.. I mean, I can drive virtually any vehicle included airplane in this game. Anyway reason I created a topic about it because I realized one thing about difference between sound off and sound on.

My old sound card somehow didn't work so I placed an order on new sound card. While I was waiting for new sound card, I got Battlefield 1942 from one of my friends, installed and played the game. I had been flattened by tank (my group), got killed from the bombs that airplane dropped overhead or got shot and killed from the snipers & machine gun that hide away from 'my' viewpoint when walking, sneaking or running... It was quite annoying. Until a new sound card finally arrived and I installed it in my computer... wow, with sound, it does make a BIG difference in game like Battlefield 1942.

You see, I have the subwoofer with me (loud one to boot), I turned it mild-high or 'almost' high. I can 'feel' the vibration that tank is coming, I walked/ran away from the tank. I can 'feel' the vibration when airplane flew overhead... but of course I may or may not alive when bomb dropped, it is depends on the radius and how fast I can 'run'. When the machine gun fired, I can 'feel' the vibration and I ran to some solid walls like building to protect myself. Apparently that I finally understand how important to have hearing ability can be in wars. I found myself finally being able to enjoy this game with sound on... I mean, in this game, I can act as 'hearing' soldier. Thanks to this sound card and subwoofer.

I probably will be flame for what I said in this topic... but I am curious about you deafies (and hearies too)... do you have the same feelings & thoughts as I do about how valuable sound effects can be in games like Battlefield 1942?
