What if I was trying to sell you something. Maybe a guitar? Let's say I want $75. Can I tell a customer---- you can have this for $75 or we can flip coin. You win, you can have it for $65. You lose, it's $85.

What would you think as a customer?

Wirelessly posted

Don't play with my wallet!! I shop for deals. Iif he flips the coin and it's 65 bucks I'll make the purchase. If the coin does not favor me and its 85 bucks I would decline the purchase.

You say $85 in the beginning I look at and say no how bout $65 you say no $75, I get thoughtful with a faraway look on my face and do not say anything. I am thinking. And I am thinking. And I am thinking.
You are thinking about how you got it for $25 and put a pedal from another bike on it. I am thinking about how you got it for $25 and put a pedal from another bike on it. We are both thinking it is worth 75 to 85 dollars.
You say its worth $75. I agree with you. Still you notice I am not reaching for my billfold. You think okay I move this bike I have room for another bike and I am not losing money anyway OKay you are killing me you shark lets flip a coin. But!! If we do this you put your $75 on the counter with a tenspot separate. We flip two out three. I win it 75$ you win its 65. Then I go I nope how about 70 dollars and we don't flip. You go okay you have beaten this time oh the pain.

You want 75, but will flip a coin for 65 or 85? Id be walking. Doesnt make since to ask for more after you set a price but to drop a price to make more appealing yes.
Say you want 75 or flip a coin for 65.... if he wins he gets it for 65 if he loses the call then its 75 but still its not appealing unless that person is willing to play the game. Better off just putting 2 colored tokens in a hat and let them pick...whatever price is on the token is what they get it for.

When I am buying something from someone (either an independent or a store), I am there to conduct a business transaction, not to play games. As a buyer I would be thinking, ok he wants 75 for it but is willing to let it go for 65 on a flip of a coin. Therefore, he really only wants 65 for it so it is already marked up 10 dollars (to 75) and he is hoping for another 10 if he wins the flip. Nope, I am walking away because this guy is just interested in playing games, not doing respectable business.
