St John’s School for the Deaf recently benefited from a cash donation of D30,000 from Banjul Reform Club. The money was handed over to the school in a ceremony held at the school grounds in Kanifing.

Speaking at the ceremony, chairman of Banjul Reform Club, Akil Allen stated that his organization’s prime aim and objective is to render assistance to the needy and less fortunate people in society. He said that this is meant to give them opportunity to also contribute in national development endeavors for wider, collective benefits of the society.

He also pledged that they will not relent in their efforts to give assistance to St. John’s School for the Deaf whose efforts and commitment to creating a better society he described as significant. He disclosed that the school will benefit again from them in the not-so-distant future as they make efforts to help them realize their goal of providing quality education for the pupils.

Giving a brief background of the organization, Mr. Allen said that it was formed 99 years ago and that plans are ongoing on celebrating the club’s centennial anniversary next year. He further asserted that they are a non-political or religious entity with membership open to all Gambians who have interest in pursuing their objectives.

The principal of the school, Daniel Mendy characterized the donation as a very positive contribution and boost to their efforts at ensuring effective learning for the school’s pupils. He promised the benefactors that the money will be put into good use to ensure maximum benefits for the intended beneficiaries.

The chairman of Parent Teachers Association at the school, Amadou Touray, who also doubles as the Public Relations Officer for the country’s telecommunication company Gamtel expressed satisfaction on behalf of the parents for the help. He posited that the assistance will go a long way in enhancing the day-to-day running of the school for the authorities while noting that it will translate into great benefits for the students.

He urged them to continue the good job they have been rendering to the cause of national development which will benefit many people in the entire country.
