Liverpool City Council 1907 Award-winning disability arts

VOTING is reaching furious levels as the prestigious DaDaFest awards are being fought out.

Anyone can cast their vote online or by post to choose the cream of the Deaf and Disability Arts to win an award. The deadline is Monday 27th November 2006. Categories and nominations follow at the end of this release.

Creative Director of the North West Disability Arts Forum, Ruth Gould, said: "We've had hundreds of votes and they're coming in thick and fast. And this is following on from receiving more nominations than ever before and having to go through a gruelling selection process with an expert panel to verify the votes."

DaDaFest co-ordinator, Gemma Nash, said: "I'm thrilled that there have been so many nominations and votes, and excited that I'm nominated for an award too, although of course I'm not having anything to do with the judging of that category! The awards night is always a glam affair, and this year should be no different."

Speakers on the night will include leading lights in Deaf and Disability Arts as well as funders and politicians. Bert Massie - chair of the Disability Rights Commission will also be attending and delivering an opening speech.

Liverpool City Council Leader, Cllr Warren Bradley, said: "Dadafest not only puts on a range of amazing shows and exhibitions, it gives something back to the artists and performers by recognising the top of each genre with an award. The success of the festival and the awards is sure to grow."

Now in its sixth year, DaDaFest is the largest celebration of Disability and Deaf art in the UK bringing together internationally-acclaimed top-class professional artists, local home-grown talent, and up-and-coming young disabled people. DaDaFest has become so successful and well-known it won the Mersey Tourism Award for Best Small Event 2005. Events this year include Performance, Comedy, Dance, Music, Sculpture, Film, Photography, and Poetry.
