Yup, I support Pelosi's idea about recover the auto industry because I love some vehicles from Ford and Chevy, Chevy is part of GM.

In other thread that where Sequioas posted and they made big mistake to make too many SUV that couldn't sell so well and they need cut on produce of SUV then make more regular car or other plan to develop new car with efficient fuel or something.

absolutely not. They got too greedy especially Unions. And this is actually a very simple problem - STOP MAKING CRAPPY CAR, CRAPPY DESIGN, CRAPPY ENGINE, CRAPPY ETC. and STOP WASTING MONEY ON MARKETING!

Look at VW. They didn't even need to spend much money on marketing. It was mostly thru word-of-mouth and people keep buying it.

I dislike VW, ugh.

Diehardbiker, youve made a valid point about the mistakes they repeated. I agree tht they should file bankrupty, not take advantage of our taxes aka uncle sam pride. I rather them learn the lesson rather than repeating it and cause all the employees lose their jobs over and over again with no steady growth like they do with japanese manufactures.

because it did not have airbags, hundred of sensors, seat belts, materials that will save your life in accidents, power window/lock, ABS brakes, list goes on...

Is the safety of your life worth $5k or $30k? :hmm:

Not to mention the fact that the cost of living has gone up considerably since then.

On one hand, I don't think our taxes should be used to support the failing auto industry, but on the other, I can understand why it's needed since the industry happens to be a large part of what makes our economy run. Right now I don't have an opinion one way or the other.

When I was at the auto show on Sunday, most people were interested in hybrids, small cars, family vans and sedans, etc. Few people were looking at suvs even theyre hybrids0

plus - especially Ford has the most inefficient process. They produced numerous of different models for different country. That alone costs billions of dollars just for one new design. Look at Toyota and Honda. They have one design for all country and it works. very well. very profitable.

Then again, Toyota can afford to manufacture only one car model in different countries since they are the number one auto maker in America.

and they streamlined the manufacturing process. American automakers have way too many suppliers/outsourcing.

oh btw - if you're wondering why American cars STILL lag behind in fuel efficiency while other countries are already 3-4x more efficient? Take a guess on who are one of the major shareholders of American automakers...

I am not sure what to think about this. I remember when the government aided Chrysler and Chrysler re-paid the money.

Maybe the bail out details will call for paying it back in the future....

If that's the case, then it's something I support.

Well, I'm talking about Cadillac back in 70's they cost $5K, they got everything except air bag, now that just air bag added, how much they cost? Probably not $25K of course.

These sensors are NOT that expensive as you might think.

One good example, emergency brake back then when I need to replace. That was in 1980's due to rust. They were made just a guy wire with stamped metal on ends, I am sure they cost around 8 dollars to make, believe it or not, the dealer wants $85 dollars! Where do you think $77 dollars goes? Of course, P R O F I T! pffft! These parts if I had press machine, I could have made it and cost me maybe 8 dollars or less.

yup there you go. dealership and labor cost are a total scam. :mad2: That's how dealerships are staying afloat. Majority of their profits are from labor fees.

(sorry for the caps being stuck on) i noticed the new vw touran van. I thought it was their own brand new van, nope its not. Its based on dodge caravan and chrysler voyager. Im not impressed with it and i could tell the interior design is very obvious, same goes with the engine.

Yes, that is right, but why again?

My concern is that our Uncle Sam is ALREADY into real deep debt, there is consequences there and if we continue to bail out and may not get it back, we will be in deep S.... oh nevermind... hope you get it.
