Authorities plan to use a little-known law to file additional charges against a therapist they say had sex with a patient.
Police say Robert Eardley of Ada used his position as a therapist to lure a deaf patient into having sex. He's already been charged with four counts of fourth degree sexual assault. Each count is a misdemeanor carrying a two year sentence.
Now 24 Hour News 8 has discovered that prosecutors plan to bring more charges using a law passed in 1931. That law has to do with unethical treatment by a medical provider and is a ten year felony. Authorities say they'll file those new charges soon.
Police also say there may be another victim. "At the time I talked to the first victim, she said Eardley had told her about a second victim," said Detective Les Smith of the Grand Rapids Police Department.
We were unable to reach Eardley at his Ada home for comment.
