The Gallaudet University Southwest Regional Center will open Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. in ACC’s Riverside Campus. The public is invited to attend. “This partnership will be an incredible resource for deaf and hard of hearing people and all others connected to the deaf community,” said Lyman Grant, dean of Arts and Humanities for ACC. “Because we already have such a vibrant deaf culture at ACC, the addition of the Gallaudet University center just seemed to be a natural fit.” ACC already has several programs and services for its 150 deaf students, plus others for those pursuing careers working with the deaf. The regional center will serve students in Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Utah. Offerings will include courses, training workshops and support services. ACC enrolls more than 44,000 credit students and offers university transfer courses, two-year associate degrees, certificates and other college and career preparatory programs. Gallaudet University was federally chartered in 1864.
