Can someone give me a crash course on things to see, things to do in Atlanta? I'm moving there after this semester is over, and I'm wanting to get a head start on getting accustomed to the city. I'm going to be visiting there several times throughout the fall, and while there, I'd like to visit some of the local attractions. Anyone that has visited Atlanta, or lives there, can you please recommend some places to visit, maybe some good restaurants, sights of interest. I'm really interested in seeing anything anyone advises, so what is there to see in Atlanta?

hey dude. i suggest ya to come to buckhead where there are many live bands and dance clubs ! it is where i now live. i love this place. Buckhead has over 200 different restaurants. the best time is thursday til saturday. sometimes wednesday nite. it depends on what mood are you for. you find more cool informations about Buckhead. - www.buckhead.org

MidTown, VA-Highland are like Buckhead. PM if you have questions about these town.
i really like these towns bec those ppl are more laid back and some places have very nice atmospheres.

Underground Atlanta is nice but i suggest ya not to go to there at late nights only. it is high crime at there.

what else... hmm i cant think of... if u have question about atlanta, please feel free to PM me or here.

Happy Day...

Several years ago, my wife and I visited Atlanta when traveling on our vacation. Interesting town. There are lots of things to do. We did visit the underground and I see deafclimber mentioned don't go there late in the evening. Another thing you might be interested is in the Coke-Cola factory/museum. That was pretty cool.

The only thing we didn't like was the traffic and it has gotten a whole lot worst since.

yup traffic is horrible everywhere in Atlanta. i cant argue about that... yet Atlanta is a rapid growing city.

yea the coca cola museum is the interesting place to go. it gives you many different samples of solas from different countries. some taste good and some taste horrible. heh.

stone mountain has the laser show at nights. you can bring a picnic basket and blankets to the show where you can sit on grass and watch the show. be there early to find a good spot for your own terrority before the show starts... it is little romantic if no kids annoy ya.

BRAVES ! go to braves game ! now it has 14th row east division champs. :)

we have some pro sports here such as football, basketball, and hockey... we have 2 NASCAR races here every year.

if you love mountains, u can drive the nearest mountains for 1.5 hrs from atlanta. if you are curious about rock climbing, beep me ! lol.

Sounds interesting about the laser show. We have family and friends down in the area and we have been wanting to visit again. Maybe this spring and coming from Raleigh isn't too bad. Now, if the gas prices would get nearer $2.25 or lower, that would help big time....*sigh*

BRAVES BRAVES BRAVES! I've been the hugest Braves fan since I was in Kindergarten. There was never a team I cared more about than the Braves. Back in the ole Fred McGriff, Dave Justice, Ron Gant, Greg Olsen days.

Thanks for the input, Eric. I'm getting more and more excited about moving to Atlanta. What mountains are you referring to? Around Chattanooga? I may be interested in giving rock climbing a try when I get down there. It'd be good for me to try something new like that.

central, urwelcome dude.

yea i love braves since i was born here. lol. yea my old times braves players were gary matthews, dale murphy, bob horner, gaylord, mike lemke. so many players i can remmy !

mountains - well there are from side to side of north georgia - i usually do day hiking or backpacking on Appachalian Trail or in Cohutta Wilderness Area...

climbing - chattanooga has several better places to climb i tell ya. my favorite climbing areas are foster falls near jasper, tn and tennessee wall (aka: T-Wall) at northwest of chatt. there are about 5 other areas that you can climb at chattanooga.

Wow. You've obviously been a Brave's fan longer than I have. The only name I recognize off that list is Mark Lemke. Earliest I can remember is Jeff Blauser, Sid Bream, Terry Pendleton. Too many good memories.

You'll definetely have to show me some of the spots when I get down there. It'd be something new for me to try, and I always love getting outdoors.
