Thousands of deaf children and adults and their families are served annually at Atfaluna through deaf education, audiology, and speech therapy, income generation programs for the deaf, vocational trainings and awareness programs, and host of other services and programs.
Atfaluna Society's work focuses on enhancing the lives of deaf people in the Gaza Strip through the provision of quality education, rehabilitation and psycho-social services, and job trainings in a place where the deaf are marginalized.
Most children coming to Atfaluna are from families living far below the poverty live as some of them live on less than $50 per month and rely on the goodwill of the community to supply their most basic needs.
The deaf expressed through sign language to Press TV the difficulties they have faced in Gaza whether from the society which is not aware of their tough conditions, or from the Israeli aggression and explosions targeting Gaza that they only know about from the reaction of other people around them.
After getting their vocational trainings, the deaf starts to put their skills into use to organize handmade-craft shops in order to market the products to support their families as well as the Atfaluna Society.
Despite the difficulties they face and the modest materials and equipment available in the besieged Gaza, they try to deliver their message through their hand-made crafts rather than words.
