Intra-State Telecommunication Relay Services May Be Affected in DE, MD, PA,
VA and WV

Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, Federal Communications Commission has asked TDI to issue a special advisory below to its members, subscribers, and the general public.

AT&T may experience a strike by some of its employees effective this Sunday,
December 11, 2005. As a result, this may affect traditional “7-1-1”
TTY/voice telecommunications relay services in states having contracts with
AT&T (Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia).

If you experience any difficulties using the relay, please contact your
local state relay administrator.

Good! It's about time they do something to let their voice be heard! I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet before.

Who cares? Unions are good at bankruptcing corporations! And overcharging consumers like us! We can not afford their HIGH WAGES! :fu2:

Sure! They jack up the cost of service so taxpayers ended up paying more!
Get my drift?

Im not saying for just relay operator. Im saying for GENERAL, like UAW who demands 70 dollars an hour for production position, no wonder why these nice cars cost tooooo much!!!!! Another example, machinist at NW airlines. they want 100 dollars an hour, these pilot wants 167k a year salary... who pays for their SHITTY HIGH WAGES???? ALL OF US!!! Even thouse with minimum wage like 6.15 an hour. This is SURELY outrageous!

Relay is a free service. How can you not afford that?

Whats more, they all forgot one important thing... We now thrive in global competition... The wages in America is one of highest in the world. How do we expect to compete with other countries where they pay only a dollar an hour? Just think about it. I just wish that unions would be smart enough to think wheather they are replaceable, and look at global competition as real threat. Whats more, unions don't do good job anymore! All they want is MONEY MONEY MONEY!
:fu2: unions!

Yea, right robbing consumers money is all they care! No wonder why they were outsourcing overseas.

More and more and more people are now working near minimum wages!!! ALL because unions took most chunk of money outta of them. That is why I don't GIVE DAMN about unions.

Our local utility company had turned into union shop, guess what happened to my utility bills? SKYROCKET!!! MOFO! I barely can afford this, and union's luxury of high paid jobs, and full paid health care while I get barely minimum wage and I PAY for health insurance! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Finally I grew up in city where they were strong unions. Now they are wiped out and most jobs now overseas! Now, where are steel jobs in the America? They are all gone!

When I worked for UPS, Teamsters was doing a damn good job of taking care of its employees.

Maybe your unaware that in Europe countries like German that have at least 20% unemployment rate? These countries are very strong unions, and goverment generally are on unions' side! Now you see the effect of high unemployment rates? That is mainly because corporations are afraid to hire new people and will find themselve hard time get rid of bad apples. These corproations now having trouble competeting with other countries all because of labor cost.

In addition to the true mathematic fact. For every penny of increase in hourly wage they cost companies at least a million dollars of annual labor cost! I am serious, just a penny that have huge impact on companies! Most of average people don't realize this hard but true fact!

Hi Diehardbiker,

I like and support the unions. Why are you complaining? They help Deaf people get better jobs with better pay and protection from bosses who are low wage abusers. Take a good look at the practices and policies of Wal-mart. You see Wal-mart abuses its employees and does illegal things because they are a big corporation and think they can get away with anything.

http://www.americanrightsatwork.org/press/press.cfm?pressReleaseID=28

See the boss's greed v.s. the low wage worker's paycheck. He is out playing golf while we all suffer. AFL-CIO makes sure the paychecks are more balanced and the boss still gets to play golf and the low wage worker's paychecks become more stronger so that the family does not have to live from pay check to pay check.

http://www.aflcio.org/corporatewatch/paywatch/index.cfm

http://www.aflcio.org/corporatewatch/paywatch/retirementsecurity/index.cfm

Finally, Instead of complaining so much. I ask you this... I am sure you are a father to kids that you love very much and have a beautiful wife at your side.

Would you want to work for $5.75 an hour with no medical benefits or $11.50 an hour with medical benefits?

then think about this... Does the boss at work really care about you and your family? In the 1950's it used to be that a man could get paid so well and come home to his wife and the kids had something to eat at the dinner table. Today, the giant corporations want to outscore jobs or force us to work 2 or even 3 jobs just to support our American families.

I for one, myself refuse to work for slave low pay wages especially when I find a woman and marry my wife and start a family. I will not put my family on the thin line to be at risk at all !!!!

Unions want American jobs back here in America and not in China and Unions want to make sure American families still get a good paycheck and the boss can still go play golf and Unions keep corporate greed in check.

I think it is time you stopped complaining and really go to a unionized workplace and see the big difference in paycheck and how it affects your life for the better. I sign the AFL-CIO petitions all the time to bring American jobs back to America and not to China etc. I am very much concerned with labor rights. I have suffered enough and refuse to bow to the rich people and accept low wage paychecks like a begging stray dog. That is how they see you. Really....

I believe it's somewhere between 10 and 12 percent, not 20 percent in Germany. You have to remember that Germany used to be two different countries. One of them was controlled by the Soviets and in that one had a HUGE problem with poverty and unemployment which is why Germany's total unemployment rate is high.

In addition to the true mathematic fact. For every penny of increase in hourly wage they cost companies at least a million dollars of annual labor cost! I am serious, just a penny that have huge impact on companies! Most of average people don't realize this hard but true fact!

From what I know, General Motors deserves to burn in hell. Back in 2004, they made quite a pretty profit, one of the biggest ever in their history and yet they announced that over 30,000 jobs will be slashed.

You know what that mean?

A raise for the executives... as usual. Screwing the middle-class and the poor over and over.

Good ??? Question ??? and I would support them so that the relay operator's families have a better paycheck and be more comfortable to support their families with less worry which is exactly what the rich boss does not want you to do, be comfortable with no worries. :pissed: while the rich people go on vacations, hunting and fishing expeditions and can afford anything within reach with no problem. ATV's cross country skiing , snowmoblies stuff like that while we have to save up for about 18 to 24 paychecks JUST TO AFFORD SOMETHING :squint:

Deaf people Alert :

Do not get brainwashed with the motto or saying....That is a controlling technique .....

" Hard work gets you a good paycheck "

That is a cruel joke the boss pulls on you and gets you to work harder, harder and harder while he is laughing his evil head off in the office if he is that stupid to laugh there or if he is a smart evil person then he will laugh at home out of sight with newspapers opened arrogantly , glass of wine and steak on the table for dinner. What a :madfawk: coward and greedy cold hearted bastard !!!!!!!!!!

Oh, no no no. I didn't get laid off. I was just predicting what would happen if nothing is done to protect relay operator's workers rights.

Heath, this is not about wages as much as it is relay abuse. Because of confidentiality laws, and public access to IP Relay, such as AT&T's service, it is prone to scams from West Africans, and sexual and vulgar prank calls from immature adolescents. Swift action is taken against operators who are caught tampering with these calls. Operators are simply wanting just treatment from management. And as far as I know, AT&T does not have scam procedures in place, like MCI does.

You may be thinking of stuff like airline pilots' unions, in which case I agree with you. Unions serve a purpose where there are REAL complaints...but not for people making the kinds of salaries airline pilots do.

Exactly! 95% of union complains were about pay! Other 5% were something else. I would support the union when it was 85 years ago where there is no OSHA, no safety concern of any kind back then. Now, there is government that is taking over. Whats point of having unions?

Often I seen in union where people were lazy scumbags gets promoted while these who really work their ass off, all based on senority! This is totally WRONG WRONG WRONG! In union, you don't get fired that easily. At my work it is NOT unionized and I see alot people who is lazy scumbag and they get fired almost instantly. They DESERVED to be fired! For example I caught one guy fooling around in bathroom, eating danish in there WHILE on the clock! He paid more than 6 long visits to restroom in 4 hours period... I reported and guess what? He got pissed off and the next thing he got fired, PERIOD. But if we are in union shop, this (firing process) won't happen this way! Ain't it fair?

Whats more, I was reject from joining union back then based on my disability. So this gives me bad feelings about unions, and that is the chief reason why I HATE unions!

You know, AFL and CIO is in process of divorce! Because neither of them can agree with anything.

I have still heard of cases where unions might be needed. Nursing-home workers in California unionized recently because they were badly underpaid and also treated like slaves.

But NO union should be rejecting you on basis of a disability! In fact, that seems to fly against what a union OUGHT to be for--which is fairness for all employees.

And for the most part, I don't care for unions. But in the interests of fairness, I am saying I think there may still be some cases where they're needed.

Try to find out how many deafies are member of IBEW, then let me know! I wouldn't be surprise around ZERO!
