Hello,
My name is Gracie and I will be starting teaching SCUBA diving courses in ASL for Deaf in the Caribbean later this summer. There are very few people who teach SCUBA in ASL and few places to learn in ASL, so I want to get the word out to the Deaf community about this opportunity.
My website www.deafdiving.com will be up next week and I have also produced a video about SCUBA courses in ASL for Deaf:

ASL Deaf SCUBA Diving Courses With Gracie - YouTube

Thanks!
Gracie

Cool! To bad, since I retired scuba after many years of adventure in my younger days. Now I need to sell all my equipments!

I will pass it along with people I know who does scuba! (Plus I used to own Scubaru <grin>)

That is actually pretty awesome! I originally wanted to take up ASL because of diving way back in the day.

I see in your profile you are divemaster. Nice! Fontana is in SoCal, right? Los Angeles is one of place on my list for relocation to larger deaf community.

Have you ever dove off Channel Islands where great white sharks are sometimes?

Myself, I haven't gotten past open water. It has been a long time since I last dive (more than 10 years ago). I would need refresher plus certification.

I outaced my classmates on hand signals, and they were fascinating at how I communicate easily under the water using ASL when they have to scurry for board and pencil.

Look up "Seasigns" or try to contact Brad Cohen of Aquahands who is from SoCal to get you started in the ASL, perhaps combines it with your diving expertise. :)

Yeah I am a Divemaster down here in Socal. I assume the deaf community down here is bigger since I live by CSDR :) I am still new to ASL though and trying to work my way into it. I love the history and I love ASL. I think it's so awesome to learn and be able to open myself up to basically another world.
I have not dived with the greatwhites yet lol. Although I plan to sometime. I bet it's scary, but I really want to still. I have dived with smaller sharks though. Actually the biggest thing I have been in the water with was at Catalina Island. I got to dive with the endangered Giant Black Sea Bass. These were not small ones either. They were like the size of my car lol.
I will have to look into the Seasigns. Sounds awesome :D
