O have tried googling this but I cannot find the ASL for the song that goes,

"let veil down, let the praise go up, we're in the prescence of the Lord." (I forget it's exact title).

The reason I am asking is because they are trying to use ASL in the song at my church and they asked if I could get it in ASL.

What I need if I can't find the ASL for it, is if someone could help me break down the lyrics to put into ASL. I know not every word is going to be signed, but I want to sign the concepts and phrases commonly used in the song.

I am learning ASL but I have not gotten quite that far yet. I want to get this song memorized so I can then teach it to the choir.

Many thanks in advance,
Dixie

First you need to get the entire lyrics to the song. You can't interpret a song piecemeal. Also, it helps if you know the rhythm and tempo that will be used. That's a start.

let me grab the lyrics out of my truck. I'm not sure how to describe the tempo over the forum, but I will do my best.

Is it slow and graceful, or fast and energetic, for example.

Behold, hanging before you is the sacrifice of God
The lamb, pure and holy, creation stands in awe
Removing all that hinders the worship of our King
As He cries, "It is Finished."m heaven sings.

Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the praise go up,
Let the veil down,
We're in the prescence of the Lord
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down,
We're in the prescence of the Lord

We come before you with a sacrifice of paise
A song here in in this holy place
To the lamb of God we raise
For the one who sttod reminding
Us of all our sin
Has been torn away and now
We can go in

Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the priase go up
Let the veil down
We're in the prescence of the Lord
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down,
We're in the prescence of the Lord
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down,
We're in the prescence of the Lord
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down,
We're in the prescence of the Lord
ooh, the prescence of the Lord (x4)

I will say the song starts out slow, and it speeds up a bit. If I had an mp3 of the song I would email it to you, but no such luck.

The song is repitive so it really doesnt require alot of signs to learn which makes it ideal.

Is this a song that will be performed by hearing people to a Deaf audience, just for them to watch

or

Will the Deaf be performing the song for a mixed audience (hearing and Deaf)

or

Will the Deaf be expected to copy sign a hearing interpreter leading the song?

The Choir and congregation as a whole are hearing with a few hoh and deaf members in the audience, so I guess this is sort of a mixed thing. (I consider myself hoh).

Will the Deaf in the audience be signing also? Or just watching?

Just watching.

OK. Sorry about all the questions but it helps me narrow down my suggestions. Mind you, these are only my suggestions. :) Others here at AD might have other better ideas. If you have a Deaf member who is willing to work with you on this, that would be great.

First, one general comment about repetitive phrases. It's usually more interesting if you can vary the interpretations. I can give you several options, and you can try them out.

First step, put the lyrics in an easy, logical format to work with:

Behold, hanging before you is the sacrifice of God, the Lamb, pure and holy.
Creation stands in awe, removing all that hinders the worship of our King
As He cries, "It is Finished", heaven sings.

CHORUS
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the praise go up,
Let the veil down, we're in the presence of the Lord.
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, we're in the presence of the Lord.

We come before You with a sacrifice of praise,
A song here in this holy place to the Lamb of God we raise.
For the One Who stood reminding us of all our sin
Has been torn away, and now we can go in.

Second step, analyze for meaning:

Behold, hanging before you is the sacrifice of God, the Lamb, pure and holy.
(Look up at Jesus hanging on the Cross. He is the pure, holy, perfect sacrifice of God.)

Creation stands in awe, removing all that hinders the worship of our King
(The natural world, angels, people are awestruck at the sight; the barrier that separates man from God has been removed.)

As He cries, "It is Finished", heaven sings.
(Jesus cries, "It is finished", and the angels of heaven sing.)

CHORUS
Let the veil down, let the praise go up,
Let the veil down, let the praise go up,
Let the veil down, we're in the presence of the Lord.
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, let the praise go up
Let the veil down, we're in the presence of the Lord.
(The veil in the Temple that blocks entry into the Holy of Holies has been torn top to bottom, allowing man direct access to the Lord without going thru the high priest; everyone rejoices and praises God.)

We come before You with a sacrifice of praise,
(We praise the Lord)

A song here in this holy place to the Lamb of God we raise.
(We sing praise to Jesus)

For the One Who stood reminding us of all our sin
Has been torn away, and now we can go in.
(We praise Jesus because His sacrifice paid the debt of our sin, and made it possible for us to go to Heaven.)

Third step, rough in the gloss:

Behold, hanging before you is the sacrifice of God, the Lamb, pure and holy.
(Look up at Jesus hanging on the Cross. He is the pure, holy, perfect sacrifice of God.)
LOOK-UP, CROSS THERE JESUS, WOW, CLEAN, PERFECT SACRIFICE.

Creation stands in awe, removing all that hinders the worship of our King
(The natural world, angels, people are awestruck at the sight; the barrier that separates man from God has been removed.)
BEFORE, SINNER, GOD DISCONNECT; NOW, SINNER, GOD CAN CONNECT. WOW!

As He cries, "It is Finished", heaven sings.
(Jesus cries, "It is finished", and the angels of heaven sing.)
JESUS CRIES, "FINISH!" HEAVEN ANGELS SING.

CHORUS
Let the veil down, let the praise go up,
Let the veil down, we're in the presence of the Lord.
(The veil in the Temple that blocks entry into the Holy of Holies has been torn top to bottom, allowing man direct access to the Lord without going thru the high priest; everyone rejoices and praises God.)
CURTAIN TEAR-downward, PRAISE-upward,
CURTAIN TEAR-downward, LOOK-UP LORD, MEET

We come before You with a sacrifice of praise,
(We praise the Lord)
PRAISE LORD PRAISE

A song here in this holy place to the Lamb of God we raise.
(We sing praise to Jesus)
SING PRAISE JESUS

For the One Who stood reminding us of all our sin
Has been torn away, and now we can go in.
(We praise Jesus because His sacrifice paid the debt of our sin, and made it possible for us to go to Heaven.)
JESUS' BLOOD ["crucify" one hand, and fist hand becomes blood flowing from open palm] FORGAVE [PAID-OFF] ALL OUR SIN FINISH, WE CAN ENTER HEAVEN

[Don't forget to make actions and eye gaze directional.]

Remember, this is the rough first draft. It will need refining.

Fourth step:

Practice to music to see if the signs fit the tempo. Add, subtract or modify signs.

Ask a Deaf member to preview and make suggestions.

Keep your signs larger than normal, and rhythmic.

Use two-hand versions of signs whenever possible, for symmetry.

Thanks Reba! Youve been a big help, you've got me going in the right direction. Hopefully this can be refined to the point that this can flow quite well. Should I get the signs and song memorized and make a video of it to post up so we can make corrections as needed?? I think this may go easier if we had a video so you can see what I'm doing or not doing.

Thanks again,
Dixie

One question on SINNER - If I am correct I would use the SIN+person indicator for the sign correct? If so, do I just arch out once away from my body then go straight into the person indicator or do I need to arch out 2 or 3 times then go into my person indicator??

Yes.

If I'm understanding what you mean, then twice should be sufficient.

Do you have anyone one "live" that can help you with this? I don't mind giving some "tips" online but you really should have someone experienced and face-to-face who can help you with this.

You said that you are learning ASL. What about your teacher? Can your teacher help you?

well only problem is I'm learning ASL from lifeprint and other internet resources. I plan on taking a formal ASL class in August. I was a day late registering for the one that is going on now.

Bumping in case someone has a suggestion to offer.

May God be with you in this, and I ve been teaching how to interpreting the songs in ASL. Music is my life, I love hymnals, contemporary, southern gospels. Just fill with worship if understanding the songs. What I notice, most hearing people trying to be deaf from thw "words" of the song to try to put in ASL. Mostly what I did is, P-R-A-Y and ask God to open my eyes and see the meaning of the songs, He should did shown me. May God bless you when you do. SMILE
