Go ahead and ask me anything you'd like to ask. Be honest and courteous. :)

Hello there..I will ask this question that I have been asking many other ADers cuz it has been brought up to my attention lately in AD and out there in my life with my family, coworkers and friends.

Do you think deaf people have a disability?

Do you think deaf people are entitled to SSI or SSDI benefits?

Now, other unrelated questions

What is your worst fear?

What are your likes and dislikes about AD?

:)

To me, as I am hearing impaired, I consider myself a disability, so I do consider that deaf people have a hearing disability, but I don't want to hurt someones' feelings as there are deaf people that are happy with deafness and that assumes me they don't want to consider themselves disability because deaf people can be independent from each other but I can't be sure.

I'd say yes, just like for people who are visually impaired and have to go to college, but if they work, I don't think they need SSI/SSDI.

About my worst fear, well I don't want to take it personal but all I can say is getting myself into debt, a child abuse, sex offenders, etc.

Nothing I dislike about AllDeaf. I like it there. Deaf and hard-of-hearing community is great!

1: Single.

2: No pets and children.

3: Non-tolerance for abuse...

4: Well, I supported 3GM at SUPPORT3GM.COM.

5: Visual and hearing impairement...

6: One thing is about the ban of incondescent lightbulbs in California. There are people who can be sensitive to flickering with the use of floriscent lights... The government in California will need to consider doing a research for lightbulbs that won't cause flickering and entice (not "force") companies to develop ways that don't cause flickering and that uses less energy than incondescent lightbulbs.

7: Yes.

8: If children have parents with an ability to hear and if their parents want to implement CI for their children, then I think that there may be times when a child doesn't want to use CI for a certain amount of time, like swimming. Before children gets CI, I think that sign language needs to be learned first, but not that much, since I think that children who wanted to communicate with the hearing parents can have their parents go to the CI center to schedule the surgery for CI implaintation (but vaccination must be taken into account before surgery).

So in short, I think CI is great for deaf children of early age, but I'd really recommend children learn sign language just to get the best of both worlds--for communicating with the hearing and deaf community.
