... it occurred to me that there aren't restaurants specializing in Canadian cuisine. :hmm:

True but at least now there are American restaurants that are offering Canadian specialities like poutine ... so maybe it is just a matter of time :).

Herpina: They have non American food in Canada?
me: Well yes and no...
Herpina: What do you mean...
me: Not really, they have non USA food there... as it's Canadian... but they are still American, just North American, not United States of America American...
Herpina: Ohhhh so If I open an 'American' Dinner I can serve Mexican and Canadian food...of and Brazilian too?!
me: Sure why not
Herpina: So moose burgers, bacon, waffles, and tacos...
me: *SMH*

How quickly we forget Timmy's!!!! Double doubles and TimBits uniquely Canadian food. Plus poutine! Not at Timmy's but yeah.

True! I love those women who bake pies up there. A pie place would be good!

What else besides poutine is a distinctly Canadian staple?

Good ones Sunny! I love most of those but I don't know Jiggs?

How about tourtiere, beaver tails, fiddleheads, perogies, Saskatoon berries, planked salmon and Clamato juice :).

And Pineapple Crush!!! Yum.

Jiggs Dinner is Newfie :) salt beef, cabbage, figgy duff, peas pudding, doughboys.

Guys I was just making a joke. Lots of love and respect for my Canadian friends here! :)

Heh, that reminds me of the time some American tango friends from Boston came to stay with me for a while. The guy kept asking me where he can get real coffee. I took him to one of the many many cafes we have here where he could get anything from espresso allongé to cafe au lait, etc. He pulled a face and said, "no, I want REAL coffee." And I said, what do you mean by REAL coffee? He said, "you know, the kind you get at Dunkin' Donuts."

Oh, REAL coffee. Gotcha.

Double double - this means coffee with two creams, two sugars. it first originated at Tim Horton's but everyone knows what it means now so you can ask for the same elsewhere. i asked for that on an Air Canada flight when an attendant asked what i wanted with my coffee. She got it.
Nanaimo bars - soooo good, this is chocolate, mint squares.
Maple syrup - self-explanatory.
butter tarts - oh yeah! that is VERY canadian - it's like pecan tarts but without the pecans.
Ketchup chips - self explanatory.
Toutins - deep fried pastry made from bread dough.
Fresh and Brewis - had heard of it but had to google it to find out what it is exactly - it's a Newfie dish - Fish and Brewis Newfoundland Recipe | Newfoundland Recipes Cookbook: Traditional Newfoundland Meals by Newfoundland.ws

More to add - maple leaf cookies. Rhubarb compote.

My Italian in-laws tell me American Coffee is mud.

I don't have any of that, not till it taste like it smells.
