Your ring is your statement to the world. It not only symbolizes your marriage, but it is also a reflection of your personal style. What does your ring say about you?

Many people are finding that -- while they love their ring and what it represents -- it no longer accurately reflects who they are. But you can create the look you want by upgrading your ring.

If you have a special anniversary approaching, or a milestone to celebrate, consider upgrading the stone in your ring. "Placing a larger, higher quality stone in your engagement ring can be a meaningful and unexpected anniversary present," says Steve Blackwell of e- Wedding Bands, one of the Web's most trusted jewelry sites. "It's a way to renew your commitment while reflecting the success you've enjoyed over the years."

Another popular choice is to create a new ring using the original stone and adding side diamonds or other gemstones. Flanking a solitaire with the family's birthstones is a special gift for moms with children of all ages. For a show-stopping stunner, mount the solitaire in an anniversary band encircled with diamonds or colored stones, such as sapphires or rubies.

If years of wear and tear have left your ring looking a bit ragged, consider investing in a new band with a modern finish. Platinum rings for both men and women are very popular right now as consumers rediscover their special luster and heft. Adding a brushed or Florentine finish gives a distinctive touch that bridges the line between contemporary and traditional. Grooved or inlay designs give a fresh look to both men's and women's rings. For a modern take on matching rings, choose a gold band with a platinum inlay for her and a platinum band with a gold inlay for him.

Folks who work with their hands know that rings made from more malleable metals often pay the price. Consider titanium wedding bands or tungsten rings for a durability that will look great for years to come.

For a truly one-of-a-kind gift, create a message just for your loved one. A ring with an engraved message lets you share how much your spouse means to you with words they'll carry with them every day. Important dates, special sayings, even song lyrics can express your affection. "We've engraved wedding bands with a wide range of phrases for our customers," says Blackwell. "It's like a secret between you and the wearer that only the two of you know about. Romantic, funny or traditional -- it's the ultimate in personalization."

I inherited thousands of dollars worth of the most beautiful rings
and gave them all away because they are not what I want out of life,
to have friends and family who can say they really love me is all I want.

These are the rings my boyfriend and I plan to get when we marry - but instead of a diamond we plan to get blue sapphires inset
